Stonehenge is the first stop on our tour. This mysterious ancient circle of 50 tonne stones in the Wiltshire countryside is one of the most famous and enigmatic historic sites in the UK. Followed by a pit stop in the pretty town of Amesbury, a couple of miles down the road from Stonehenge.
Discover Stonehenge & Salisbury Cathedral: Day Trip from London
Enjoy a wonderful day exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral.

Then it’s onto the venerable and wonderful old city of Salisbury, via a journey through the beautiful Wiltshire countryside including the mystical Salisbury Plains. No visit to Salisbury would be complete without a trip to Salisbury Cathedral. Home to the original 1215 Magna Carta and the world’s oldest mechanical clock as well as boasting the tallest spire in Great Britain. With stunning views of the spire through its glorious glass roof, The Refectory is the ideal place to relax with a cup of tea.
On the way back to London there is a stop at another enigmatic and ancient site–Avebury Ring, which is the largest European stone circles and is even older than Stonehenge. The Avebury Ring is actually made up of three large stone circles, originally thought to have been made up of about 98 stones, there are only 27 still visible today however walking between these huge monoliths is still a breath-taking experience. Situated close by is the scenic village of Avebury and no trip here would be complete without stopping for some lunch at the historic and legendary haunted pub The Red Lion. Following this there is a quick stop at the Neolithic site of Woodhenge to explore the timber circle that was believed to have been constructed around 2500 BC.
If the chosen tour day is a Tuesday or a Thursday then there is also the chance to stop and enjoy the sights and sounds of Salisbury Market Place.
A truly memorable day trip.
